{"id":35317,"date":"2025-05-15T17:07:40","date_gmt":"2025-05-15T15:07:40","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/drogriporter.hu\/?p=35317"},"modified":"2025-05-15T17:48:32","modified_gmt":"2025-05-15T15:48:32","slug":"drugreporter-will-not-be-silenced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/drogriporter.hu\/en\/drugreporter-will-not-be-silenced\/","title":{"rendered":"Drugreporter Will Not Be Silenced"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The Hungarian government proposed a Russia-style bill that would effectively ban our organisation, the Rights Reporter Foundation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<!--more-->\n\n\n\n<p>The new law, introduced by the ruling party on May 14, would blacklist NGOs that the government labels as \u201cforeign agents,\u201d prohibit them from accepting foreign funding, and make it impossible to raise domestic funds. This law threatens the very existence of <em>Drugreporter<\/em>, the project we have dedicated the past 20 years to \u2014 a project we have built our lives around. And it wouldn&#8217;t stop at NGOs: independent press organisations would also be targeted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is not only an existential threat to us and our families. It won\u2019t just destroy the lives we\u2019ve built \u2014 it\u2019s <em>game over<\/em> for democracy in Hungary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In poker, \u201call in\u201d means a player is betting all of their remaining chips on a single hand. This law sends a clear message to the EU from Hungary\u2019s wannabe dictator: <em>All in<\/em>. I dare to risk everything. I challenge your authority. I challenge your values. Because I can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We call on EU institutions, member states, donors, and the international community to stop this rampage and support Hungarian civil society in its fight for freedom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Drugreporter<\/em> will survive. They will not silence us. Not only because our servers are hosted abroad, beyond their reach. Not only because we will continue our work from exile if necessary. But because we \u2014 the people behind <em>Drugreporter<\/em> \u2014 believe in it deeply.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We are not afraid.
