Watch the very informative and important speeches of Maria Phelan, David Wilson and Tanya Deshko!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Watch the presentations now on video:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Maria Phelan (<\/strong>Harm Reduction International):\u00a0The Funding Crisis for Harm Reduction:<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ghcDI__jrQs\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>David Wilson<\/strong>\u00a0(University of New South Wales): Harm Reduction Resourcing in Middle Income Countries<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/MuVPSKOOc3M\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><strong>Tanya Deshko\u00a0<\/strong>(HIV\/AIDS Alliance in Ukraine): Situation of Harm Reduction in Ukraine<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/ifMXPaUlRdw\" width=\"640\" height=\"360\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihra.net\/contents\/1449\"><img decoding=\"async\" style=\"width: 200px; height: 283px; margin-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px; float: left;\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/8\/drogriporter\/imce\/funding_report_front_cover_1.jpg\" alt=\"\" \/><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ihra.net\/contents\/1449\">The report <\/a>highlights that:<\/p>\n<div>&#8211;\u00a0&#8220;<strong>Current investment in harm reduction falls far short of need.<\/strong> US $2.3 billion is needed in 2015 alone to fund HIV prevention among people who inject drugs, according to UNAIDS, but only US $160 million was invested by international donors at last count \u2013 approximately seven percent of what is required.<\/div>\n<div>&#8211; <strong>The majority of people who inject drugs (around 75%) live in middle-income countries<\/strong> and over 40% of new HIV infections are due to unsafe injecting in many of these countries.<\/div>\n<div>&#8211; <strong>Changes in Global Fund funding policy threaten to significantly reduce allocations for harm reduction<\/strong>, particularly in middle-income countries.<\/div>\n<div>&#8211; <strong>International donors such as the UK and the US are withdrawing aid from some of the most affected countries due to \u2018middle-income\u2019 status <\/strong>and an emphasis on disease-burden and related treatment services.<\/div>\n<div>&#8211; <strong>National governments are neglecting HIV prevention for people who inject drugs<\/strong> &#8211; domestic investment in HIV responses is increasing, but governments are not allocating money to harm reduction, even where HIV transmission rates are high among people who inject drugs.
