Meet Erik, who is witnessing the devastating effect that punitive drug policies are having on his beloved brother. This video has been produced by Cara Lavan and the Anyone’s Child campaign with the support of Drugreporter.
Anyone’s Child is a growing global network of families whose lives have been destroyed by the drug war and are collectively speaking out for the need to control and regulate drugs.
In this short film, produced by Cara Lavan / Moore Lavan Films, a member of the Drugreporter video network, Erik tells his story and becomes the latest member of Anyone’s Child Kenya.
He joins a growing collective movement of families in Kenya who are speaking out about the difficulties faced by people who are addicted to drugs. Erik explains that his brother first started using drugs in adolescence, becoming involved with gang activity and the criminal justice system.
He goes on to describe the rehab / relapse trap within which his brother is caught and calls for a complete overhaul of the system. He then calls on the Kenyan government to approach drugs from a health perspective, not a criminal one.
