In Delhi, under the skin of the city, there is a hidden population of women who inject drugs. A movie directed by a member of our video advocacy network, Mehrdad Qafarian.
Women injecting drugs in the open next to the district’s main road are as common sight as children inhaling thinners from a dirty piece of cloth. Most of them are homeless and/or jobless, and make their daily living by begging, stealing, collecting waste, or working as simple day labourers.
Through this film we aim to spread much-needed awareness about the existing lack of female-centric interventions and programs for women who use drugs, and other issues that we face. Our WUD (Women Who Use Drugs) community continues to remain an ignored and stigmatised group. We hope this film will help us to bring about a change and initiate a dialogue within the concerned/authorities/individuals to provide better quality of care and treatment for our WUD community.
