Janice Phelps is a clinical psychologist and she created the first academically accredited training program for the training of therapists in psychedelic-assisted psychotherapies.
We interviewed Professor Phelps at the Interdisciplinary Conference on Psychedelic Research (ICPR) 2024 in Haarlem, The Netherlands., about who and how should be trained for this specific form of therapy in the intersection of spirituality and science. We discussed whether it is important for future therapists to have personal experiences with psychedelic substances and if it is advisable for them to use other spiritual practices, such as mindfulness meditation or yoga. She also spoke about the prohibitively high price of current psychedelic-assisted therapies and if it is possible to make them available for everyone who needs it.
Janis Phelps, PHD, Professor, Director, Clinical Psychologist & Marriage and Family Therapist, California Institute of Integral Studies, Discover Workshops, USA. Janis is also on the advisory council of OPEN Foundations Advanced Education in Psychedelic Therapy training programme (ADEPT).
