Watch three exciting book presentations that Drugreporter recorded at PS25 in Denver. Timothy Leary’s son, Zach Leary, presented his new book Your Extraordinary Mind; Wendy Tucker, Ann Shulgin’s daughter, introduced two new books by Synergetic Press; and Diego Ugalde talked about his book, Leading From The Deep: A Navy SEAL’s Psychedelic Approach to Conscious Leadership.

Synergetic Press, the official bookstore collaborator for Psychedelic Science 2025 organised interesting author talks at the exhibition space of the conference. We present the speeches of one of these talks in order of appearance, along with the books the authors told us about.

Diego Ugalde: Leading From The Deep: A Navy SEAL’s Psychedelic Approach to Conscious Leadership

Leading from the Deep

What makes Navy SEALs work so well together? Diego Ugalde, a former Navy SEAL, has answered that question countless times for executives and athletes. But it wasn’t until Diego retired from the Teams and found psychedelic medicine that he discovered the true potential of those leading elite teams. Through psychedelics, Diego has learned there’s so much more to this existence and leadership than he once thought. In Leading From The Deep, Diego combines the key lessons learned in his career with the SEALs with the deep insights he gained through work with psychedelic medicines.

Wendy Tucker, Board Chair of the Shulgin Foundation and daughter of Ann Shulgin, presented two exciting publications by the Synergetic Press.

The Nature of Drugs

Alexander Shulgin: The Nature of Drugs: History, Pharmacology, and Social Impact, Volume 1

The Nature of Drugs: History, Pharmacology, and Social Impact, Volume 1, presents lectures from Alexander “Sasha” Shulgin’s popular course on what drugs are, how they work, how they are processed by the body, and how they affect our society. Transcribed from the original lectures recorded at San Francisco State University in 1987, The Nature of Drugs series highlights Shulgin’s engaging lecture style peppered with illuminating anecdotes and amusing asides.

Ergot Alkaloids

Albert Hoffmann: Ergot Alkaloids: History, Chemistry, and Therapeutic Uses

The masterpiece we have all been waiting for, Ergot Alkaloids comes to life in the English translation of Albert Hofmann’s historic encyclopedia of Ergot Alkaloids and their derivatives. This title is a detailed account of chemical compounds and pharmacological investigation into the potential of visionary plants. Starting with the botany and cultivation of the ergot mushroom, Hofmann takes us through the historical elaboration of the fungus including the poisoning epidemic of ergot and its early medical uses all the way to the use of psilocybin as a “magical drug”.

Zach Leary: Your Extraordinary Mind – Psychedelics in the 21st Century and How to Use Them

Your Extraordinary Mind

Zach, a psychedelic researcher and advocate, offers a necessary overview of psychedelics today―particularly LSD, psilocybin, MDMA, and ayahuasca―including what they are, how to use them safely, and crucially, how to integrate mind- and spirit-altering experiences into the rest of our lives. The son of psychedelic pioneer Timothy Leary, he has a unique perspective on not only where psychedelics have been but also where they’re going. He offers context on both the cultural history and present interest, while acknowledging and honoring the Indigenous roots of many of these traditions.
