“The Rising Wave” is a movie about the organization from Lithuania “Young Wave” (“Jauna Banga” in Lithuanian), which deals with the use of psychoactive substances by young people.
“The Young Wave” considers it important to interact with young people who use drugs when discussing harm reduction or drug policy reform. This is due, in particular, to the fact that young people, especially young people from marginalized backgrounds, are more prone to risky drug use and risky sexual activity, which can lead to a number of harmful consequences.
Young people are often discriminated against by law enforcement agencies, and young people who use drugs are often discriminated against in society at large. As such, “The Young Wave” seeks to mobilize young people in Lithuania by involving more and more activists who have not previously promoted humane drug policy or harm reduction.
The Young Wave team works at music festivals, night clubs, and bars where they provide information and harm reduction services. These include quality control (reagent testing), distribution of drug use supplies (tubes, gelatin capsules, etc.), condoms, water, information on the safe use of psychoactive substances, peer-to-peer assistance from other psychedelic users (PsyHelp).
Through the movie activists are going to share their experiences and ideas on what humane drug policy should be and what role young people who use drugs should play in promoting it.
